Mr. Zhang Changjun, General Manager of the company, recently signed a contract with the leaders of Henan Shuangma Paper Products Packaging Co., Ltd. for the upgrading and renovation project of the wastewater treatment system for Shuangma Paper Products Company's annual production of 150,000 tons of corrugated paper and boxboard. What you need to know about sludge bulking: influencing factors, formation conditions and solutions

Factors Leading to Sludge Bulking: Temperature - Low temperatures favor the growth of filamentous bacteria. Daigger et al. found that 10℃ easily leads to filamentous bulking, while raising the wastewater temperature to 22℃ is less likely to cause sludge bulking; pH - The suitable pH range for activated sludge microorganisms is 6.5~8.5. When the pH is less than 6, the activity of bacterial flocs weakens, and their growth is inhibited. However, filamentous bacteria can proliferate, replacing bacterial flocs as the dominant population, resulting in significantly poorer sludge settling performance and sludge bulking. When the pH is below 4.5, fungi completely dominate.
